DIY: Coffee for Skin and Hair

We know coffee best as a drink to kickstart the day, but its beauty benefits will take you by surprise. Coffee is truly amazing for its potential to protect, brighten, scrub and smoothen, and it only makes sense to use this versatile ingredient to create some simple and effective recipes to beautify skin and hair.

As an antioxidant, coffee can help combat premature aging of the skin caused by damaging free radicals. As a natural exfoliant, coffee helps remove dry, flaky skin to reveal a youthful glow. Coffee also adds shine to dull, dried out hair.

Most of the ingredients for our DIY recipes are inexpensive and easily available, so try these amazing coffee recipes for beautiful skin and hair.

Face mask for glowing skin
This morning face mask has a delightful aroma and will revitalize your skin to reveal a healthy glow. It is packed with antioxidants which eliminate impurities from your skin.

What you need

  • 3 tablespoons fresh coffee grounds
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cream
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Combine the ingredients and gently massage into skin. Apply a light coat to your face and neck. Let it sit for 20 minutes. Wash off and pat your skin dry.

Treatment for shiny hair
This hair treatment will repair and restore your hair to reveal a shine. Antioxidants present in coffee strengthen hair follicles and improve hair growth.

What you need:

  • Coffee
  • Water

Prepare strong coffee, and add water (depending on your hair length) to it. Let the mixture cool till it is lukewarm. In the bathroom, pour the mixtures onto your hair and scalp, and cover your hair with a shower cap. Leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash out with warm water.

Cellulite removal scrub
This recipe has proven to be effective in eliminating cellulite and exfoliating skin. Compounds in coffee help reduce the appearance of cellulite and the added benefits of olive oil in the recipe seals moisture into the skin.

What you need:

  • 1 cup fresh coffee grounds
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup olive oil or coconut oil

Combine all the ingredients and massage them into wet skin thoroughly. Massage the scrub onto the target areas in a circular motion before rinsing.
This can get messy, so make sure you stand in your shower area while applying the scrub.
Use this scrub for a couple of weeks for lasting results.
