While the ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) awards may be a celebration for the superstars of the athletic world, it was A-list stars Selena Gomez and Olivia Wilde who stole our attention on the red carpet. Both wore red—a nod to this season’s primary colours trend, perhaps?—but it’s up to you to decide who deserves the title of best dressed.
It’s hard to imagine that Selena Gomez was eating KFC only hours before hitting the event. Though she may have a petite frame, the singer showed off her long legs in a red dress by Dolce & Gabbana from the Fall 2013 collection. (While the runway version hit at the knee, Gomez was wise to wear an altered mini-dress version.) Complete with three quarter sleeves, lace and jewelled embellishments, Gomez certainly stood out on the red carpet. Accessories were kept simple: she paired her outfit with black pointed-toe heels by Casadei and accessorized with jewellery by Neil Lane. Gomez’s hair was left down in soft curls—her signature style, really—and she finished off her beauty look with rosy cheeks and red nails to match her sultry red pout.
The other stand-out lady in red at the ESPY awards was actress Olivia Wilde. The season’s crop top trend suits her well: she bared a bit of her toned abs in a black leather top and a high waist red-checkered midi skirt, both from the A.L.C Resort 2014 collection. Dare we say it was almost an athletic ensemble? Wilde accessorized with a pair of black-heeled sandals by Jerome C. Rousseau and a black clutch byJimmy Choo. Appearing effortless in the beauty department, she styled her ombre hair in soft curls, while playing up a more romantic look with smoky eyes and nude pink lips.
